Arguments for and Against

Arguments For:

  1. Schools depend on great teachers and staff, and DCSD must remain competitive to attract and retain talented employees. Although recent funding measures have improved compensation, continued investment is needed to keep salaries competitive and ensure compensation keeps pace with inflation.

  2. The Mill Levy Override will help DCSD reduce long waitlists for Career and Technical Education opportunities for students, including the trades.

  3. Douglas County School District students, teachers and staff deserve safe and secure schools. The Mill Levy Override will provide funding to maintain and strengthen school security, including school resource officers and campus security specialists.

  4. Strong schools are essential to Douglas County’s quality of life, property values and economic strength. The mill levy is an investment in maintaining the high-quality schools that make Douglas County a desirable place to live, work and raise a family.

Arguments Against:

  1. Taxes are already too high in Douglas County and with the rising cost of gas, groceries and other necessities. Now is not the time for another tax increase, especially for residents on fixed incomes and families struggling to make ends meet.

  2. Voters have already approved funding measures for DCSD in past elections. Residents need to prioritize household financial stability during times of general inflation and cannot afford tax increases.

  3. There are too many tax increase measures from multiple local and state agencies on the November ballot. This creates additional stress for homeowners during an unpredictable economic climate.

  4. Persistent inflation and general economic uncertainty are placing significant strain on both local household budgets and small business operations, making any additional financial burdens difficult to absorb at this time.
